![]() Christchurch has a wide range of activities and sights that can easily accessed either on foot or by driving to in your rental car.
Starting near the airport the International Antarctic Center is well worth a visit to learn more about this area. Get up and close with a few penguins while you are there. Orana Wildlife Park is a must see especially when its time to feed the lions. There is driving access only within the park and for good reason to. The park is on the outskirts of the city and was opened in 1976. The Tranz Alpine train which travels from Christchurch to Greymouth on the West Coast is widely regarded as one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. It is possible to make a day trip stopping in Greymouth for an hour or so around lunch time before heading back to Christchurch in the afternoon. Hagley Park in the center of the city is based on an old English style park with many large specimen trees and shrubs.
